My first encounter with this International Design exhibition left a lot of thoughts and lessons in me. Inspiration came not only as I saw the showrooms but also as I saw people gathering; some of them to discuss some design topic, to admire a piece of furniture and some others just for the sake of having a good time. More than trying to capture the best shot of a piece of furniture (which you can find in the retail website anyway), sharing the spirit of the event was the main objective.
Herman Miller created a big space where people could interact and use many of their products. Coffee, screens, furniture, all ingredients to create an ambiance that invites anyone to stay in the space for more than just a minute.
Technology is definitely another component of interior design that cannot be forgotten. I would have never imagined that even smell was veing integrated to the experience of the user in the interior space. A stool with scents that come out of it in order to invite the user to feel in a defined way was one of the projects that caught my attention the most.
Even though I have always had a big disagreement with pretty design just for the sake of being pretty, I have to admit that there was furniture that looked so beautiful that I had to use it (even if it didn´t have any major attribute but its beauty).
Being in Neocon was an amazing experience in every way, I had the opportunity to go with my boyfriend which is also an Interior Designer and we got to talk for hours about the trends that we found and details that we found interesting. We also attended a Gensler talk about the importance of happiness in the workplace. Seeing a numerous amount of people that care about the same things than me made me feel that I actually belonged there. I got to see that most of the time the products are not the only thing that attract a client to your products. Many times a little wine and food can bring a whole bunch of people that are happy to use your product while tasting a delicious tequila (in my case, haha). I highly recommend any person interested in Interior Design to visit the Neocon 2015. I promise that you won´t regret it.
